CyberDojo

Video Classes during the COVID-19 Pandemic

All - please see the below instructions for connecting to the CyberDojo during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have made a change as of 20th April to how we connect for classes. We will now use Cisco WebEx Meetings, rather than Amazon Chime (you may now delete this app if you wish). Cisco WebEx will allow you to set-up a single video feed as the main focus, therefore you will be able to have just me full screen, rather than having to look for me in the corner of your device, hopefully this will work better than before. As always keep an eye on this page in case the instructions change.

These Online Training sessions will be done by Video call using the Cisco WebEx Meet application. The sessions will be FREE, the app is also FREE and can be installed on iPhone, Android, Windows and MacOS. If you need help installing please let me know and I will do my best to help you. The schedule will be as follows and the sessions will be mixed for all ages and grades.

Monday 7pm to 7:30pm

Thursday 7pm to 7:30pm

It may not be perfect but it’s better than nothing, at the least we may have a few laughs along the way. Please set your device somewhere where you can see me on the call and that I can see you. Ensure you have some space and clear the floor as best as possible. As I said we are going to just try our best with this. Finally be ready to start on time and in your Gi with grade belt.

We will do a quick warm up and then work through things like basics, combinations, kata, perhaps some simulated one step work etc.

It will seem strange, but let's give it a go. Brief installation instructions are below.

There will be a meeting URL needed, please do not share with anyone outside of the club.

You may download Cisco WebEx Meet from the Apple or Google Play Store. Or visit (just make sure to download the Meet version, NOT Teams:

https://www.webex.com/downloads.html/

The following is a brief example of set-up done on an Apple iPhone. Other devices should be very similar.

Once installed, start WebEx Meet and accept the Terms of Service.

Select to Join Meeting (you do not need an account or to Sign In).

Next, enter the meeting URL which is available from me. Just send me an e-mail at sensei@kaihatsu-do.co.uk and I will send the URL to you directly. This helps to improve class security and privacy.

Enter your first name only (just so I know who has joined) and feel free to enter any e-mail address you want, it does not have to be real).

Once connected you may need to Enable the Microphone and then the Camera for the device you are using.

Finally, enable Audio and the Camera and ensure "Use Internet for audio" is selected.

Please remember that once we are ready to start the class everyone needs to go on mute to prevent distractions and possible feedback issues.

You should be able to select or double click the video feed of me, so that I show as fullscreen. This should make it much easier for those of you with smaller screens to see what I am doing.

The standard default Preferences should work fine, but if you do want to check / change any then you will find this in the top left of the screen (at least on iPhone it is).

There is a good chance we will have teething troubles at the start which is to be expected, but we will get through it.

Also do not worry, for privacy reasons these sessions will not be recorded in any way. Which is another reason that I have not gone with the very popular Zoom option.

Any changes to schedules etc will be placed on the Club website and Facebook page and this page. If there is demand I will also set-up a WhatsApp group.

In the meantime if you have any questions, including questions about training, techniques etc or requests for more online sessions please let me know.

Thank you for your support during this challenging time, I wish us all to be safe and well.

Please feel free to contact me with any issues or concerns. I look forward to seeing you all Online soon.

Kind Regards

Sensei Mark
